Socks, Socks, Socks

This week has been about getting my socks in progress finished. Kinda moving out the old, so I can start with the new. Last week I didn't get much accomplished because I would knit a little on one project, then move to the next. You just don't get much done that way. So, this week I stuck with the socks and got my husbands Opal tiger's done.

These are my daughters tiger socks made with the leftovers.

They're so cute!

I've almost finished up my Trekking socks. My first pair of fraternal socks. There is no way that you can get a pair of twins out of a ball of Trekking. I thought it would bug me, but it doesn't.

So I'm knitting along on my socks and what happens. I start thinking...yup, it happens from time to time. Curiousity got the best of me [our cat must be rubbing off on me] and I started on a pair of Jaywalker socks.

Yea, yea, yea, I know.

So sue me.

I made a few changes as you can see. I decided to go with a solid cuff, heel and toe. I went with a 1x1 rib and because I went with a solid heel, I decided to do a garter stitch short-row heel instead of a heel flap because it just looks better.

I had started with the smaller size, but there was no way I could get it over my heel as there is no give in this pattern and frogged it to start the larger size. Problem is, an 84 stitch cuff would have been too large, so I still made the 76 stitch cuff and increased to 84 stitches on the last round of ribbing. I was thinking of decreasing to 76 stitches for the foot, but then changed my mind. I think it'll fit okay.

Five more days until the Knitting Olympic challenge. I'm excited about starting the project I chose to make, but I'm not putting any pressure on myself to finish on time. I'm just glad for the opportunity to challenge myself with a knitting project I don't do very often. That and I love to see everyone else's knitting. It should be a lot of fun!

Keep On Knitting...

Love, love, love all the socks. Hubby and daughter's socks are too cute. I bet they look adorable standing side by side in them!

And you...you beat me to the punch with the Trekking socks! In a little store in Montreal I found a small stash of Trekking yarn, and guess what colourway I picked out for my first pair of Trekking socks...the exact one you're knitting with. We must be cosmically linked or something...hehe!

I can't wait for the Olympics either! I'm so excited about the challenge, being a part of such a big knitalong, and being able to focus on one project for 16 days straight! And of course, watching you knit on those teeny tiny needles with teeny tiny yarn and seeing those gorgeous gloves come to life!

Lovely socks, I love the jaywalkers, the solid colour heel and cuff sets them apart from the others that are appearing everywhere.

I love the jr tiger socks! I was thinking of using my leftover sock yarn for my granddaughter who's 2 years old. They would knit up fast too.

All the socks are great, but my favorites have got to be those tiger socks. Good job matching up the stripes too!

Your socks look great - I am impressed by your motivation and your determination. I am working on finishing my second Jaywalker (need to just sit down and do it), although mine is so different.

I have to say I do love the alterations you have made to the sock (the solids and the heel); very classy and gives nice definition to the zig zag.

They all look great!

All the socks look great! I really like the way your jaywalkers look ... I like the different coloured heel/cuff/toe. It adds a little bit of extra zing to them. :)

I honestly have not been that thrilled with the Jaywalker socks I see on everyone's blogs, but I must say, I like those. They are the best pair of Jaywalkers I've seen.

welcome sister, to the jaywalker club! i'm onto the instep portion of my journey, on my first sock. this is my first pair of socks in sockweight yarn, and it's been a thrill!

and i finally broke down and checked out the time-traveller's wife. oh my god, what a sucky life! granted, i'm only 20 or so pages into it (i got it saturday, and was unable to read it til last night, when i passed out 15 pages into it, sigh), but it looks interesting. thanks for the idea!

and how much closer to breath are you?

I love the father/daughter socks - way too cute!! Kerwyn is very hard on socks - it looks bad in print, but I don't think that I love him enough to actually knit him a pair of socks that would fit him only so that he can wear them to death in less than no time at all!

Good luck my fellow Olympian.
