It's All About the Spin

Following in Marlene's footstep's, I decided to spin up some of the superwash merino millends I scored a short while back.

Baa Baa Black Sheep

I chose the vibrant yellow to start with.

Superwash Merino Mill Ends - Yellow

Which became more gold after being spun.

This is a 2-ply that I managed to spin at 17wpi thanks in large part to a nifty little gadget called a spinner's control card that I bought from The Woolery. While my consistency still isn't the greatest, I'm quite pleased with the results. I always seem to have the problem of thinking I'm spinning consistently, until I start plying. Then I see all the flubs I did! I need more practice to be sure, but I'll also go easy on myself because this is really slippery stuff to spin. Fun, but slippery.

I'll be knitting this [along with the dark blue, once spun, in the above pic] to make my husband another hat. While the other hat I spun/knit for him is fine, it is heavy [navajo plied] and I'd like for him to have a hat to wear that is warm, but also won't crush his skull with its weight. [Note: I ain't kidding, that hat has some serious heft to it] *grin*

This next pic is because I was told that I only have pics of my cat on my blog, which is totally not the case. So, here is my hyper and incessantly barking sweetie with the tip of her tongue sticking out. I wouldn't have her any other way.

Your spinning looks fantastic Michelle. I'm sure you've discovered by now that even the inconsistant handspun yarns look fantastic, and a lot more even, once knitted up.

I'm on to my second pound of the dark blue, which I'm spinning up in the evenings while watching TV with my husband. In the meantime I'm also knitting away using the first couple of skeins of it during my free moments during the day. I'm knitting a close fitting pullover sweater from it. It is looking FABulous! I love, love, love it.

Minnie: I have my cc# memorized. LOL

Wannietta: Thanks very much. If you saw it in person you'd see some of my flubs. LOL

Marlene: Thank you. I have indeed discovered that handspun knits up looking even and I'm so happy about that! *grin* I'm just glad I'm able to pretty much ply a balanced yarn...but, it's that perfectionist in me that makes one of those sour faces when I come across one of my flubs. LOL I'll be looking forward to seeing you knit up your handspun project.
