I'm So Proud

Look! It's my first 2-ply handspun. It's so ugly, it beautiful.

I learned alot spinning this first batch.

Here is my second attempt.

It's much better. I have learned that I am able to draft from a fold much more easily. The inchworm draft just wasn't working for me, even though I was going slow and using the park and draft method. Now, drafting from the fold, I can stand and spin and I seem to be able to get a nice even draw from the fibre. I'll get it eventually, I suppose, with practice. I can't wait to get a wheel!

For those of you curious and didn't see my comment in the last post, I'm considering an Ashford Traveller for my first wheel. It's compact [I need compact!], it's versatile [I'll want to spin lighter weight yarns, particularly lace, fingering and sport.] and it's pretty. Also notice I said, "my first wheel." I know what I'm in for.

Well, I guess I should do some knitting...the trouble is that this damn spindle whispers to me and tells me to spin instead.

Keep On Knitting...

I've got a Joy, and it's infinitely portable. Your spinning looks great! :)

*shhlurrp* Another knitter sucked into the spinning vortex.

Eventually the addictions balance out and you are able to do both. For one thing, all that spinning you are driven to do at the moment will eventually have to be knit. Then, when you have experienced the joy of knitting with your own handspun.....

Looking good. If you are considering buying a wheel - look at the ashford Joy. I am not expert on wheels, but this one (which I now own) is totally portable and doesn't take up much space!

You're rockin' it Michelle!! The first effort was like falling off your bike when you're learning to ride. You wish it didn't have to happen but eventually you forget about the pain and revel in the freedom.

Wow, thats beautiful! I'm over from Marlene's blog. She has helped me alot with my first attempts to spin on my CD drop spindle. She's helped me alot...period! Now I'm TRYing to get the hang of spinning from the fold...and its not a piece of cake. Even though I tease out the roving and try to keep my hand loose...wickedly varying drafting triagles occur, while I end up in a panic...doing some tugging or having my twist dwindle down to nothing and break off. Oh boy, I'm venting...sorry! I've loved seeing your results...you've no idea...grin.
